GMM Pfaudler acquired a dedicated Heavy manufacturing capacity in Vatva, Ahmedabad, to have a stronger presence in the Heavy Engineering segment. However, the current Heavy Engineering operations faced several challenges, including delayed deliveries, month-end skew in production (wasted capacity), poor working capital turnover, long lead times and unmet monthly targets (which have to be carried forward to the next month).
These issues, in addition to creating a highly stressed working environment, posed a significant obstacle to achieving the objective of sustainable business growth. Therefore, there was an imminent need to implement effective end-to-end processes and systems to mitigate the impact of uncertainties of this environment and enhance overall synchronization across functions, allowing for the achievement of promised deliveries and targets without compromising on quality and cost.
Towards this end, GMM Pfaudler implemented a flow-based solution across Design, Procurement, and Production with the help of Vector. This move toward streamlined operations yielded significant results in each of these functions, enabling the company to release hitherto wasted capacity in all these functions and ensure deliveries as per commitments to the end customers.
